Is Technology Hurting Us?

In our present technology-based American society getting people to move is presenting a difficult challenge.  All of us have been effected by some type of technology.  For most of us it comes in a form as a remote control and or a wireless telephone.  We ride two blocks in our cars instead of talking the short walk.  We are slowly becoming immobile. To counter act this problem we are going to have to increase the amount of movement we make in our daily lives.  Breaking this habit can be difficult.  We get things done faster because of our technology and the downside is that we are moving less.  What is the solution? Simple. It is called regular movement.  I call it regular exercise.  People were made to move.  If you are not used to this breakthrough try these simple activities to get into the habit.

1.  Take the stairs.

2.  Wash your own car.

3.  Cut your own grass.

4.  Park a little farther away from the building. (any building)

5.  Walk over to talk to a colleague instead of sending an email.

6.  Walk to restroom on the other side of the building. (if you have the time)

7.  Have your class stand up with you and stretch.  (raise both hands over your head, count to 5)

8.  Take a short walk with your class after lunch. (try a walk after the first bell in the morning)

9.  Hide the remote control.

10. Walk on the beach instead of sitting on the beach.

Movement works.  It is just that simple.  You will think better, feel better, and work better.  Your assignment is to try at least

one of the 10 simple activities before Friday.  If you do something with your class I would love to hear about it.

Remember, don't wait until Saturday.  Pretend it is Saturday today.
