Exercise is For All Ages

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to ride on the Longleaf Bicycle Trail in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  It is a very flat rails to trails with a lot of tree canopy.  It has places about every five to seven miles with water and bathroom facilities.  It is one of the best rails to trails that I have had the opportunity to ride.  The round trip is 80 miles.  We rode our first 40 miles miles stopping several times to view some scenery and enjoy the day.  At about 10 miles a lady in a blue shirt and a bike helmet past us pretty fast.  We caught up with her at the next rest stop and took the opportunity to talk with her for just a couple of minutes.  Her name has slipped my memory but she is from Chatham, Alabama.  Take a look at her picture and then guess how old she is?  Then I will tell you just another remarkable thing about her.

My biking partner David is with her. This young lady is 68 years old.  Just a few months ago she rode a bicycle across the United States with a group of other hardy souls!  In my book that is remarkable!!!  About the time we finished the first 40 miles she was coming back in the opposite way 10 miles back into the course.  We stopped and ate lunch and talked about it.  When we got back on the trail to finish the last 40 miles she had arrived back in a van with some friends.  She had completed the 80 miles.  That is remarkable!  I hope I feel that well when I am 68 years old.

What a day! What a ride!  What an experience!
