Welcome to The Family Reading Road Trip!
The Reading Road Trip had a total of seven, twenty minute stations that the student could choose from. They had to attend three
stations with their parents. The following stations were offered.
1. Wellness Stories with Mr. Pearson (Always Wear Clean Underwear - Marc Gellman)
2. Story Songs - Music Teacher
3. Story time with Ronald McDonald (K-1)
4. Story time with Angela Erwin (2-3) Invited author - Click here to find information about her new book, Crabby
5. Story time with Greta Meeker (4-5)
6. Library Computer Labs - Read an AR book and take a test and then head to Successmaker
7. Library - Off Road Reptile Exhibit
8. Create your own Postcard about your Reading Road Trip - Art Teacher
At the end of the hour and a half "Road Trip" all the students were invited to the cafeteria for a free book on their grade level.
To be eligible for a free book each student had to attend three stations. Each student was given a Passport that was stamped
upon leaving each station. Our faculty members, which included the Principal and Assistant Prinicpal, assisted with the stations, gave out books, and acted as Road Assistance Guides along the route. The Assistant Principal acted as the "Onstar" commmunicator letting children and parents when it was time to move to their next station. Passport Check-in started at 6:00 pm and Check-out Book Selection was over by 7:30. This as a big success for our first Family Road Trip at Cordova Park Elementary. We had 200 students attend the Family Road Trip and at least 200 parents. We have already begun planning for next year. Click here to find our Welcome to Family Reading Road.
