Noodles

You probably have a swimming pool noodle laying around your house.   They might be in the garage,

under the bed or in the utility room.   You can usually purchase them at a local department store during the

spring or summer of the year.   You might even find a few left over from the summer.   Noodles are lots of fun

and you can teach with them, use them at parties, church recreation and summer camps. Listed are two

resources out that you might consider using if you decide to use noodles.  50 Ways To Use Your Noodle and

1.   Types and sizes of noodles

     a) Noodles come in different sizes and colors and textures

2.   What can you do with noodles?

     a) Balance

     b) Kick

     c) Throw and catch

     d) Individual activities

     e) Partner activities

      f) Group activities

     g) In a swimming pool

     h) Rainy days, hot days, picture days, etc.

3.   Safety in using noodles

      Putting them in your mouth

      Striking other people

4.   Some favorite activities

      (I=Individual, P=Partner, G=Group)

      (D=dominant hand, ND=Non-dominant hand)

       This is just a few ideas of how you might use noodles.   Get your students to help you discover creative

       ways to use noodles.

      Baby Noodles

    * I=Flip like a coin- D/ND

    * I=Twist or spin using two hands

    * I=Balance one noodle on your foot- D/ND

    * I=Kick up from your foot and catch- D/ND foot and catch with D/ND hand

    * I=Add a hand clap

    * P=Kick up to a partner- D/ND

    * P=How many can you balance on your partner?

    * I=Clap your hands together using one noodle, now use 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.

    * P=Hand to hand sideways-see how many noodles you can place between you and your partner's hand

    * I=See how many times you can strike the noodle with the palm of your hand

    * P=See how many times you and your partner can strike it back and forth

    * I=Towers-make three stacks of noodles as tall as possible

    * P=Towers-make three stacks with a partner-try it with no talking

    * G=Parachute snow noodles-place 200-300 noodles on a parachute and see what happens

      One half sized noodles

    * I=Balance on the palm of your hand- D/ND

    * I=Throw and catch to yourself

    * P=Throw and catch one noodle to your partner, 2 noodles- D/ND

    * I=Flip the noodle in front of you and catch, flip the opposite direction

    * I=Kick up and catch- D/ND foot and catch with D/ND hand

    * P=Kick up and catch to your partner- D/ND foot and catch with D/ND hand

    * I=Spin the noodle and catch

    * I=Blast off-push up with your hand to a high level like a rocket and catch- D/ND

    

      Group activities

    * G=Each person has a noodle-face a partner and touch the noodles long ways. Groups of 6-8.

    * See how far the group can roll a whiffle ball down the noodle.

    * G=In a group-make a circle, each person has a noodle, place the noodle near your foot on the ground.

    * Take your left index finger and hold the noodle upright. On the count of three let your noodle go and move

    * to the noodle on your right and catch it before it touches the ground. Next time use your right index finger.

    * Also try skipping one noodle and going to the second noodle.
