Deep in the Rain Forest

During the Month of April, our class spent two weeks studying

about rain forests.  We read books about the forest layers,

animals living in each layer, and the plants and trees of the rain

forest.  We also enjoyed viewing many of the animals on the  National

Geographic web site.  The web site has videos of many rain

forest animals and includes audio with animal sounds.  Each

child created a sloth, a butterfly, a monkey, a snake, and a macaw. 

All of the animals were displayed from the jungle vines attached to

the classroom ceilng.  Every child had a "Jungle Journal" to record

rain forest facts learned.  At the end of our two week study, we invited

the parents to our classroom for a "rain forest open house." Children and

parents enjoyed working for 2 hours at 15 different activity centers.

I like butterflies because they fly and fly and they eat nectar.

 

 

 

 

I know monkeys eat bananas they really eat bananas and when you take the bananas they will fight you.

 

 

 

On rain forest day it was fun and I like making a frog.

 

 

 

On rain forest day we got to choose a center.  Me and Grace chose binoculars.

 

 

 

My favorite thing at rain forest center is a sloth.  And we made a snake and we made a sloth.

 

 

I know snakes slither around the rain forest.  They have scales.  Snakes are long. 

Some of them are called rattlesnakes.

 

 

Butterflies flap their wings. They have antennas. They slurp up the food. They sometimes come in green.

 

 

On rain forest day, we got to play at centers.  We made binoculars and necklaces.

 

 

Butterflies are pretty and colorful..  Butterflies can fly.  I know that butterflies have antennas.

 

 

Sloths have round claws and their claws stay like that forever.

 

 

I like sloths because they climb on trees.

 

 

I learned that sloths have 3 or 2 toes.

 

 

I  like monkeys because they are cute.  Monkeys eat bananas.

 

 

Monkeys eat bananas. They have fur.

 

 

I know sloths live in the rain forest.  And the babies hang on the mom's stomach.  They eat leaves.

 

 

 

I like parrots because they fly.

 

 

 

I like the monkeys because they make noise like me.

 

 

 

I like butterflies because they are pretty.

 

 

 

I like butterflies because they fly in the sky.

 

 

I like parrots they have different colors.

 

 

I know that snakes have scales.  Snakes are really fast and they slither and some live in the rain forest.

 

 

Butterflies carry pollen to flower to flower and some butterflies have brown owl eyes to fool predators.
